LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – As of 5:00 p.m., Lubbock had an afternoon high of 90 degrees. This beats the previous record of 89° set in 1961 on today’s date.
We may also have record temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday. The unseasonably warm weather is expected to continue for most of those seven days, except for Friday and Saturday when a cold front will drop us into the upper 70s (still above average).
Low temperatures tonight will be cold again. Like this morning in the upper 40s and low 50s, which is just above average for this time of year.
Highs tomorrow will be in the 80s for most of Caprock, 90s possible outside of Caprock. There will be a weakening rear cold front trying to come through, but that will do nothing but give us a light northeast wind. (A trailing cold front is a type of cold front that moves in from the northeast.)
Lubbock should be a few degrees below the record tomorrow, but because of the uncertainty with this front, highs still have the potential to exceed record temperatures.
