Rams News: New Projection Has LA Trading Offensive Superstar – Sports Illustrated

The Los Angeles Rams are in an interesting position midway through the season.

After being considered eliminated, the Rams shockingly defeated the Minnesota Vikings 30-20, improving their record to 3-4.

That’s largely due to the return of star wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Pukka Naqua.

Cupp recorded five receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, while Naqua returned to his form from last season with seven receptions for 106 yards.

The real star of the game, however, was running back Kyren Williams, who rushed for 97 yards on 23 carries and also hauled in five receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.

Williams has been the Rams’ top offensive weapon this season, leading the league in rushing attempts (139), rushing touchdowns (8), total touchdowns (158) and combined rushing and receiving touchdowns (10).

So far, Williams has rushed for 533 yards and scored at least one touchdown in the last 10 games he has played.

As the Rams look forward to the rest of the season, the question remains whether they will make a playoff bid or start rebuilding for next year.

While some pundits are suggesting the team trade the former Super Bowl MVP to another team, USA Today’s Jacob Kamenker has a different idea: send Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.

“Think about getting Williams’ dream scenario for Dallas fans,” Kamenker said. “If the Los Angeles Rams fall far enough out of the race, they might consider unloading Williams at a reasonable price while allowing 2024 third-round pick Blake Corum to prove himself as their best player.”

“Williams would give the Cowboys a real three-punch threat against the run.” His bruising ability might even remind some of what Elliott accomplished in his younger days in Dallas.”

Still, Kamenker admitted that’s unlikely to happen, especially if Cupp and Naqua continue to play well enough to earn Los Angeles a Wild Card berth.

That being said, Williams would be a huge upgrade for the Cowboys. Right now, they are trying to use the running back duo of Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott. They were unimpressive, with Dowdle rushing for 246 yards on 59 attempts and Elliott rushing for 115 yards and one touchdown on 38 attempts.

They average about 4.1 and three yards, respectively. Combined, that means Dowdle and Elliott are averaging 3.7 yards per carry combined. Rams rookie running back Blake Corum currently fits that bill, and he only had 20 attempts.

If the Rams have to make a big trade, it’s hard to see them getting rid of Williams. When Los Angeles was at its lowest point, Williams proved to be a consistent bright spot. And it is more than likely that this will continue in the years to come.
