Raising funds for a children’s hospital in Birmingham at Kilimanjaro Climb – Bbc.com

A group of 28 people hoped to accumulate more than 200,000 British pounds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

They have collected over 130,000 British pounds to their goal so far, as the group is preparing to fly to Tanzania on Wednesday.

The money would go to the hospital’s appeal of 3 million pounds to transform its front entrance to help reduce the fear of 100,000 sick children treated at the site every year.

The group starts the ascent on Friday and seeks to reach the summit in the morning on February 5th.

The group includes parents of patients and members of the charity and the hospital’s trust.

Asked why Kilimanjaro was chosen, Mike Weaver, who came up with the idea, said it was “something I always wanted to do and I think it is in many lists of buckets of people.”

With some parents of children, taking care of the hospital who participate, he said, “It’s great to have them on board and this motivates us to help them.”

G -N Wever said it was moving 10 km every day for 30 days straight, “just try to build my fitness.”

He added: “I think everyone is excited to get there, but we know that the challenge towards the end will be difficult.”

It will be necessary for those who participate for eight days to climb and go down Kilimanjaro, the charity at the hospital said.

Dave Barnes, who, along with G -N -Weaver, is part of the group, said they have “19,000 feet to become” and added that there will be “very altitude”, with temperatures at “minus 10 in tents at night”.

He said, “I think altitude is a real challenge for people and you don’t really know how it will affect you until you start climbing.”
