Push for further controls for firearms for mental health – Dakota News now

Sioux Falls, SD (Dakota News now) – last month, Dakota News now brought you the history of Larissa’s efforts to go to Pierre and change the legislation on mental health and access to firearms.

Strong lost her daughter Haley Barrick last year for suicide shortly after being released from mental health detention.

Strong is looking for an additional requirement that would prevent anyone who has recently been at a mental health restaurant from buying a firearm.

Although it is too late in the introduction of new legislation, Strong said the topic could appear in a summer study.

“Introducing the bill, the mental health bill and make sure that people really understand what it is. We want to make sure it is bilateral. We want to collect Republicans and Democrats there because it’s not about the party. It’s about people, “Strong explained.

Strong said she was also visited with Senator Mike Circle staff to bring national legislation forward.
