
Public Schools in Miami-Dad (M-DCPS) hosted an innovative ceremony on Wednesday, March 12 in James H. Johnson Elementary to celebrate the $ 15.2 million project, which will include the renovation of several buildings, as well as others over construction
“James H. Bright was built in the 1950s, so this is a great improvement in the modernization of classrooms to keep up with time,” says director Claudin Winsor. “Our students deserve a wonderful, updated school and this will be great for the community. It’s a dream come true.”
M-DCPS chief North Region Yenia Aponte, school council member Roberto Alonso, regional administrators, employees and students gathered at the Hialeah School for the event.

Winsor welcomed the renovation of the main office, the main part of school parents see when they visit. In addition to updating the ceiling, lights and central air, the office will receive a supply room where textbooks can be stored.
There will also be new covered paths, a bus drop and a new playground, a PE shelter and an alarm fire system. Other improvements include upgrading the track area and the resumption of basketball courts. The project is calculated to be completed by August 2026.
“This will be a good transformation,” said fourth -grader Jeronimo Borhos. “If they improve classrooms, all children will have better training.”
These school bond projects are the result of the approval of the voters of the total bond of the total debt of $ 1.2 billion in 2012. The funds from the bond are used for the modernization and construction of school buildings throughout the area, the expansion of the capacity of the students, the increase in the safety of the facility and the provision of technology modernization of technology.
