Presidential Election 2024 | Vice President Kamala Harris presents plans, optimism to crowd of supporters in Raleigh – ABC11 Raleigh-Durham

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — Vice President Kamala Harris visited the battleground state of North Carolina on Wednesday and campaigned in Raleigh to highlight the challenges she plans to overcome.

“As your president, I promise to seek common ground and common sense solutions to the challenges you face,” Harris told the crowd at Coastal Credit Union Music Park in Walnut Creek.

Much of Harris’ speech paralleled the one she gave Tuesday night in Washington, DC.

She repeated her message that it was time for a new chapter and argued that former President Donald Trump was too unstable to run again.

Thousands packed the music venue to hear from the Democratic presidential nominee six days before Election Day.

“Make no mistake, we’re going to win,” Harris said.

Harris and Trump were in North Carolina on Wednesday, trying to grab every vote they could.

Harris outlined some of her goals, which include offering tax cuts for the middle class, cracking down on corporate price gouging and restoring women’s reproductive rights at the federal level.

“In America now, 1 in 3 women live in a ‘ban Trump’ state – including North Carolina and every state in the state except Virginia.”

Harris tried to tie Trump to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. However, this happened on June 24, 2022, during the Biden-Harris administration. The US Supreme Court decision returned abortion policy back to the state level.

Trump has publicly said he supports states having the power to set their own abortion laws and regulations.

Supporters said they believe Harris can flip the state blue for the first time in 16 years.

“She’s going to win,” said supporter Kim Cauthen of Durham.

Raleigh resident Pat McWaters added, “Kamala is the only one who gives me hope.”

Harris criticized Trump for labeling political opponents as the “enemy within.”

“I promise to be the president of all Americans and always put country before party and myself,” Harris told the crowd as he continued to try to distance himself from President Joe Biden’s labeling of Trump supporters as “scum.”

Although a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t won North Carolina since Barack Obama in 2008, Harris’ supporters remain optimistic.

“We got this,” Garner’s Robin King said.

Williams O’Meara of Clayton added, “We’re going to turn the state blue.”

Cauthen said this event has energized her to do more in recent days.

Cauthen, who works two jobs, said she spends any free time on phone banks and knocking on doors to campaign for Harris.

“I feel a little worried just because, you know, it’s so tight and there’s so much at stake,” Cauthen said.

On Wednesday, Harris tore through battleground states. From North Carolina, she flew to another mandatory state – Pennsylvania. From there, Harris flies to Wisconsin for Wednesday night’s rally in Madison.

Kamala Harris will be in Raleigh. Donald Trump will be in Rocky Mount.
