Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – President Donald Trump sends thousands of troops to the National Guard to the southern border against the backdrop of his immigration repression.
Military units from all over the country are strengthening the US -Mexico border, including here in Laredo. According to the mayor of Laredo, Dr. Victor Trevino, “This is just an additional amount of elements of the National Guard, which will be here in Laredo, who cooperate with our border patrol to help them.”
Last week, over a thousand troops arrived at the San Diego border as part of Trump’s plan to limit illegal immigration. In addition, on Monday, January 27, governor Greg Abat also issued an order to send state troops from major cities to Texas, with 400 soldiers already in the Rio Grande Valley.
Although there is no word exactly how many troops come to Laredo, Trevino believes that they will help the border patrol in every way necessary. Adding: “They will not have direct action on immigrants, they will serve as support. Now those elements that come to Laredo will probably be able to demonstrate a show of strength. “
The president of Larendo’s border patrol, Hector Garza, confirmed that the National Guard troops were deployed during the Biden administration and Trump’s first term, helping several areas.
Noting that “some of these border operations that these military members have helped in the past are cameras, managing observation posts along the border and assisted in support of roles such as mechanics and technicians.”
The deployment of additional troops comes after the Trump administration has carried out national immigration and raids for the application of customs and operations.
“Many of these deportations are based on purposeful application, which means that HSI, ICE and other law enforcement authorities focus their efforts on identified threats to the Community. People who are already deported, or people who can participate in criminal activity in the United States, “Garza said.
Garza adds that if agents come across a person who has no legal documents to be in the US, they can also be deported.
As our community continues to experience changes in policies, Trevino advises the community that Laredo will continue to follow federal laws. Adding, “These are federal and international problems that affect us and because we are right here at the border, so we watch these things as they develop.”
Another element issued by Abbott Today was an enforcement order that directed state agencies to assist the federal partners in the placement of additional barriers to improve the security of the border.
