Durham Constable Kevin Garthwaite was on routine patrol when the vehicles came to his attention at around 3.40am on Thursday (October 24).
A Durham Police spokesman said: “Following an inspection at the Durham Police control room, SC Garthwaite discovered that all three vehicles were not registered to the police area.
“Unable to let him go, the officer called his colleagues from the Durham Roads & Armed Policing unit to help stop all three drivers.
“After the drivers were pulled over, it was revealed that all the vehicles had no insurance.
