Police List in Topeca 36 victims for killings for 2023 in the capital – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka’s police have listed 36 victims of killings for 2023 in the capital.

This number was found in the “End of 2024” report, which was released on Monday by the Topeka Police Department.

This report stated that Topeka had 22 murders in 2024, which was 14 less than the total in 2023.

This figure meant that Topeka recorded 36 murders in 2023.

However, 13 news records from this week indicated that there were 35 murders in Topeka in 2023.

This number was the highest in the capital and was five more than the previous maximum of 30 recorded in 2017.

In an attempt to clarify the apparent discrepancy in the numbers, 13 news contacted the police officers in Topeka on Tuesday morning.

Police officers provided a list of 36 murders victims in 2023.

A murder that was not included in 13 news records before was on this list.

Police on Tuesday said Glen McCleland, who had not previously been in the NEWS general murder for 2023, died after an attack on Thursday, September 7, 2023, in the 1500 block on SW Clay Street in Central Topeka Street S

According to his obituary, McCleland of Topeka was 74 years old and died six days after being attacked on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at a local hospital.

Police on Tuesday morning said no arrests had been made at McCleland’s death.

A total of 36 murders victims were indicated in 2023 in Topeca with the inclusion of McCleland’s name, which made it the year with the most murders in the history of the capital.

So far, in 2025, no killings have been reported in Topeka, employees said.

Two murders beyond the borders of Topeka in Shawni County after suicide with double murder on January 27 in the 7800 block of Se Ratner Road have been reported.
