MPs and police have helped find a 15-year-old El Mirage boy and reunite him with his family after he escaped home and headed to Mexico in his parents’ car, authorities said.

The incident began around 6:15 pm Tuesday when a man reported that his son had escaped from home to Desoto Road 2600, according to the Sheriff Department of San Bernardino County.

“According to the caller, his son left the residence at 4 o’clock in the morning in his parent’s vehicle,” Sheriff’s written statement said. “The minor sends a text that goes to Mexico and took his passport and money.”

A deputy appointed to the Victor Valley sheriff station managed to get to the boy on the phone and learned that he was driving through San Diego.

“(The deputy) managed to persuade the minor to withdraw and provide an address where he is,” the statement said. A police officer in San Diego went to the scene and stayed with the boy until his parents were able to take him.

“We would like to thank the family for calling us quickly so that we can find it before we cross the border between Mexico and thank the police station in San Diego for their immediate response,” the statement said. “There are rumors that a missing person must have disappeared 24 hours before contacting the law enforcement agencies, this is not true. The earlier contact the law enforcement agencies; the better chance of law enforcement must find the loved one. “
