Washington – Rick Pitino jokes that senior guard Cadari Richmond is like a nice wine.
“He continues to improve with age,” Pitino said. “And he is 35.”
Even if he was 35, not 23, Richmond would not have been born the last time St. John received in January without a loss. It was 40 years ago in 1985 – the last time the program reached the final four.
The red storm with the 15th ranked 7-0 of the New Year and 9-1 in Big East Play for the first time after the 80s under the late coach of the Hall of Fame Lou Carneca, which does not appear much around the gym.
“I’m not really talking about the 80’s,” Pitino said after winning 66-41 in Georgetown on Tuesday night. “I always rewrite Lou after every game and say the same thing to everyone:” Ly will be proud of this team. “But I don’t imagine it too much better and better.”
St. John has won three of the last four without guarding the point Davon Smith, which is breastfeeding a bruised right shoulder. Smith could return immediately after Saturday when Provades visited Madison Square Garden, making only the red storm more dangerous.
“They do very well without him,” said Georgetown Ed Kulie coach. “I don’t know. I want to say I didn’t play against them with him. This is another athlete on the floor, another stubborn defender. They played great without him.”
Tower emphasizes great and it’s hard to argue. Tounded with No. 9 Market of the Grand East ranking, St. Jones exceeded opponents 519-423 during this start, and this included the deletion of a 16-point deficit in the second half to defeat Xavier last week.
“It means a lot to us, but we just take it one game at once,” said Swingman Aaron Scott to win seven in a row. “We don’t look too far in the future. We’ll just prepare for Providence and just prepare for this game.”
Pitino shouted the game against the best performance of the Hoyas team from his team during the season. The presenter got up to 30 and ended at halftime.
He told the players in the dressing room that he was a coach of a team that “can go out in the second half, play it 0-0 and dominate”-launches in 1996, which continued to win the national title. St. John is not there yet and that’s good with Pitino.
“I’m proud of these guys,” he said. “I think the best quality we have is humble. We just keep playing hard. We don’t think anyone can beat us.”
They are just not long ago and March is just around the corner.
