Pirates AFL Updates: Siani Stars, Yeon beat – Pittsburgh Baseball Now

Four Pirates prospects took part in the Scottsdale Scorpions’ 10-9 Arizona Fall League loss to the Surprising Saguaros on Friday, October 25. First and foremost was 2019 compensatory pick Sammy Ciani, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a hit and two runs scored, raising his batting average to .410 in 10 games for Scottsdale this season.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound outfielder’s contribution helped Scottsdale build a 9-3 lead … but they fell apart from there, allowing six unanswered runs and falling to 5-10 on the season.

2022 first-round pick Termar Johnson made his first appearance since leaving Tuesday’s game early. Staking a leadoff hit, he went 1-for-5 with an RBI single.

Pitching prospects Valentin Linares and Eddie Yean also appeared in the loss. Linares pitched two scoreless innings of relief, working around an error by his third baseman that sent the Saguaros’ leadoff hitter to second with no outs. He struck out two, allowing a walk and a single. Yeon entered with runners on the corners and two outs in the fifth as Scottsdale clung to a 9-8 lead. He allowed one to cross from the right, which Siani deflected, allowing the equalizing move to cross. Yean then surrendered the winning run in the sixth, allowing three singles and a walk, but limited the damage to one run with the help of a nice relay to the plate. However, he was tagged with one earned run, a blown save and the loss in 1.1 innings of work.

Scottsdale will return to action at 3:30 PM EDT Saturday, facing Surprise again on the road.
