A new scam has been reported in a small Wisconsin town, prompting local authorities to warn residents to be on the lookout.

It happened in the village of Wind Point, a small village in Racine County. The scam is classic, with scammers impersonating a city employee.

Village of Wind Point officials issued an alert to their social media followers late last month, warning them that this scammer (or set of scammers) was contacting many people in the local community.

Officials are not going into too much detail about what this scammer is doing or trying to accomplish with this scam.

Fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone gave out personal information and realized it was a scam.

If you are in Wisconsin and receive a call like this, as it will likely spread in the coming weeks, hang up and contact your local authorities directly. They can easily confirm if they called you and not a scammer.

Long story short, it’s always best not to engage when you get a phone call that doesn’t seem right.

Even if it feels good to you, don’t give any information over the phone and do your research first. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
