Christopher Stockton, 38, was only accusing Charlie Roberts when the boy received a fatal head injury at the Darlington family’s home, but his mother Paula admitted he was ignoring him before the murder.

The 41 -year -old Roberts was suspicious of a hundredth that she created a spy camera over her son’s crib, tested at Teesside Crown Court, heard in December.

But she remained in contact with him, even after expressing her concerns about her brother’s hundreds.

Initially, he denied an accusation of cruelty to the children, Roberts eventually had to admit that he was ignoring his son, failing to obtain medical treatment of Charlie for bruises caused by a hundred.

Her boyfriend was convicted of murder and cruelty to children.

Stockton, who had moved with Roberts and her little boy only seven days earlier, was only accusing Charlie when she caused a severe head injury that caused widespread brain bleeding in January 2024.

Nicholas Lumley KC, prosecutor’s office, told the jurors that the hundreds “had shook or threw it with such violence, intentionally and forcibly harmed the little Charlie.”

Roberts had left home minutes before he went to an eye test, and Stockton, who was unemployed and remained in the early hours, playing Xbox Games, must have clicked in January morning, he told the court.

Stockton called 999 and could be heard on a record, he repeatedly said “Come Friend” and “Wake up Wake” to the little boy who didn’t breathe.

Stockton had to tell the paramedics, the doctors and the police that Charlie was suffocating on a biscuit and that he tapped the child on the back and threw his fingers down the throat of the young child.

The next day, a young child died in hospital.

After the conviction of a hundredth, Charlie Barry Greenwell’s dad said: “Charlie was a very beloved son and grandson who was taken away with unnecessary and left the whole family with a void that would never be filled.

“As a family, we process the last events and try to put up with the sentence and information that is provided, which is deeply disturbing to ourselves.”

Detective warden Chris Barker, who was leading the investigation, said: “To install a spy camera, as Paula Roberts did, means that there should be concerns about him.

“If you have concerns about those who care for your children, you should act, talk or ask for help.

“Charlie had everything to live for, but his life was brutally shortened.”
