On a sunny day of Valentine’s Day at Malibu, the Pepperdine baseball opened its season against the University of Utah at Eddie D. Field Stadium.

A 10-inning game has led to the University of Utah to take over the game 3-1. It was also Tyler Latar’s first game like Pepperdine Head coach.

Although Pepperdine has started the season with loss, Laratorre said the team was preparing for a long season ahead.

“They are prepared for a marathon, not for a sprint.” said Latore.

Pepperdine started the Strong Home game, ruled by senior infiltral Julian Nunes at the top of the first Innning.

Red Jr. Pitcher Tommy Skavone, along with Pepperin’s defense, detained Utah in the second Innning, retaining the score 1-0.

Although windy circumstances were not perfect, Scavone said there was a strategy for putting in the game.

“We had a goal to just throw it over the plate and get early swings and leave our defense,” Skavone said.

Latorre said he works to press baseball waves offensively, but is proud of the picing and defense shown by the team.

“We were very well directed today,” Latrare said. “I was really pleased with the way Tommy threw himself today.”

Pepperdine’s defense retained Utah contained where the catch of a sophomore Finley Buckner closed the top of the second.

At the bottom of the second, Utah’s picker held a strong game against Pepperdine, where a double game returned Pepperdine back to the dugout.

The energy of the waves was high when they entered the third, with a look at the prize, despite the offensive failure.

Freshman Danny Cook said the determination of the Pepperdine baseball is unlike any other team he was involved in.

“All these guys want to win every day,” Cook said.

At the top of the third juta hit the single, but continued to hit. Pepperdine followed with a second base, closing the top of the third intent.

Pepperdine showed a team work on the pitch where they trusted each other to do what they did best.

“The speed at which they gathered and work together was really cool to see,” Latrare said.

Latorre said that the team, which was gathering together, also led to a better baseball. Utah compared Pepperdine in the 2024 season and compliments on the overall improvement of Pepperdine.

“Utah actually played here last year, and they came in and said everything looked cleaner and everything looks like the highest grade 1. program,” Latarre said.

Utah climbed on a base and continued to steal second. After a walk from Pepperdine outside at the first base closed the top of the sixth Inning.

Peparchus was less fortunate and ended the bottom of the sixth with just one hit and one left on the base.

Sophomor Pitcher Colin Valentin came to the beginning of the seventh by putting two submission of relief Sending the game to the ninth Inning without a hit for Utah.

Latore said he wanted to prepare his players for a long time ahead and the crime shown by Pepperdine, he was just getting his nerves.

“I think our attackers just had to take the first out of the way,” Latrare said. “There were probably some butterflies playing against another team for the first time.”

Pepperdine is 0-2 as a whole and is preparing to take over the University of Utah again on February 16 at Eddie D. Field Stadium, and Latorr said they were excited to go out.

“Tomorrow we are returning to work in the cells and showing what we can really do offensive,” Latarre said.
