BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A pedestrian was struck Tuesday morning on Interstate 65 North in Birmingham, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), forcing officials to close the road.
Police have been on the scene since about 3 a.m. between I-65 between University Boulevard and 3rd Avenue South.
Traffic traveling north on Birmingham is being diverted off the interstate while emergency crews work on the incident.
ALDOT expects the interstate to reopen by 7 a.m. Tuesday.
In the meantime, one detour available to drivers is to take University Boulevard to the Red Mountain Freeway.
