PCSO identifies remains in the 35-year-old cold-column case

COLFAX, California (Kolo)-Placer County Sharif says it has identified remains in a 35-year cold Calfax, California.

Wendi Abrams-Nishikai is said to have been found in 1990 after being last seen on Halloween, 1989. She was 21 years old during her disappearance.

Her remains were last seen by the embankment along the path of Yankee Jims in Kolfax and have remained unidentified ever since.

The case was initially considered cold after police failed to identify it with technology at the time.

The case remained cold until 2023, when the newly formed Cold Investigation Team with PCSO opened the case again, using progress in forensic technology. In 2024, the California Department of Justice in Richmond, California, successfully identified itself to a relative by DNA analysis, associating the remains with a relative of a woman reported to disappear in 1989 by Berkli, California.

Abrams-Nishikai was officially identified in January this year.

Her death remains under investigation. Anyone who has the case information is urged to send an email to [email protected].
