Panthes gathers from 18 down to win IRONTON in OT

Chesapik Panthers were left dead on the side of the road.

But Braden Shrek of Ironon went out with a 6:02 brand of the fourth quarter.

The situation seemed to act as a defibrillator when the Panthers came to life and deleted a 18-point deficit to bind the game, then won 83-76 in overtime to preserve the hopes of the conference in the Ohio Valley.

“This year, it seems that every critical rebound goes the other way,” said Ironon coach Chris Barnes. “These are difficult to lose.”

Ironon (12-7, 9-4) led 57-44, entering the fourth quarter, and when Shrek entered for arrangement, he was fouled and went to the floor, injuring his ankle. He made a free throw and left the game 6:02 to play, and the lead was already 62-46.

Markel Cotton did the arrangement and the lead was 66-48 with 5:40, but Caden Perkins made a free throw and arrangement and the return was turned on.

Madox Kazi and Perkins began to score as desired, and when Ethan Curnes sank two fake shots with 32 seconds, the panthers descended only to 74-72.

Karson Frecka did a sort of tie the game with the remaining 9 seconds, and then he blocks an attempt to arrange just before the Zumer and the game went to overtime.

Chesapike (19-2, 12-1) received a free throw from Kerns, two from Perkins and one from Drew Plantz and was 78-74.

Ashton Lane shaping 41 seconds on the clock received Ironon within 78-76, but Perkins made a fake shot and Kazi was 4 out of 4 on the line when the panthers diverted with the miraculous final.

Ironon was 10-5 after a free throw from Shrek. Perkins drives the main arrangement line and received another arrangement as Chesapik received within 10-9.

Shrek hit 12 feet and free throw with 45 seconds on the clock and Ironon lead 15-11 at the end of a quarter.

The definition of Ashton Lane and the theft and arrangement by Markel Cotton put Ironon 21-13 at 5:30.

Perkins sank two technically free throws and then two more fake shots with 3:33 remained in half, and the Panthers left with 26-19.

Tyler Roach hit a 3-chapter for 29-19, but two free throws each of Perkins, and Philip Taker reduced the deficit to 31-25.

But Shrek struck a pair of 3-indicators, including one with 2 seconds in the half, and Ironon was 37-27.

Ironon continued to pull away in the third quarter as a 12-footed shrek and free throw from Brailon Stirgil opened the lead by 57-42.

Perkins did the arrangement just before the zumer and he was 57-44.

“Braden hurt and this hurt us and the markel (cotton) that ignited, really hurt us. We started throwing the ball, we handed it to them, it’s just disappointing, “Barmis said.

Kazi finished with 34 points and Perkins scored 23, as both players were 13 out of 16 in foul. Frecka added 10 points.

Shrek scored the highest 34 career points to lead Ironon. Cotton scored 13 while Roach and Lane scored 11 each.
