BOISE, Idaho — Justin “Juice” Kennedy, his brother Mason and the Onslaught crew travel across the region performing stunts in a very unique setting and then show it to audiences at a movie premiere.
“Urban skiing is basically taking park terrain skiing from a resort and bringing it to the urban environment,” Juss said. “So we drive around the cities looking for walls and railings and drop-offs.”
The OS team will premiere their new film Absorb this Thursday at Treefort Music Hall in downtown Boise this Thursday. It will show their efforts to build features, use a girl to sneak into those features, and their ability to create tricks in a crazy setting.
“It takes trial and error, but it’s really satisfying when we get the shot we’re looking for and succeed in our mission,” Juice said.
This will mark OS Crew’s ninth feature film. This year they traveled to Calgary and throughout the Northwest. One of the features they rode in Boise is a dog park rail at Ann Morrison Park. The brothers screen their film this time of year to get people excited for winter before they do it all again.
“We really love getting our local snow community together this time of year just to help spread the fireplace and get everyone fired up for the season,” Juice said. “Let’s party and get fired up.”
While the film features this year’s classic stunts, the OS team spent some time exploring the Idaho countryside and they have some jaw-dropping footage to show.
“There are a couple of areas that we’ve been interested in for a while, so we’ve put on our travel adapters and gone into some new areas,” Juice said. “It was pretty nasty checking it out.”
The Onslaught Crew also does a really good job of showing the whole process and with that comes a lot of crashes as the team tries to figure out the best way to conquer a feature.
“We rarely get the tricks on the first try,” Juice said. “It’s definitely a lot of work, but we’ve learned a lot over the years, but there are a lot of crashes in between the successful attempts.”
The film debuts this Thursday with two screenings, one at 6:30 p.m. and one at 9:00 p.m. It will also include Brapski 4, a backcountry ski film made by Sun Valley’s Carl Fostved.
The event will feature booths from Tamarack, Bogus Basin, Eco Lounge and Daymaking Tour Adapters. The OS Crew will have a booth signing autographs and giving away freebies. For more information on tickets, click here.
