One man killed, one hospitalized in shooting in downtown Reno Sunday – KTVN

UPDATE – OCTOBER 21:

According to a statement from the Reno Police Department, they responded to a report of shots fired in the rear of 229 W. 2nd St in Reno around 3:15pm on Sunday.

Police said when officers arrived on scene, they found two men with gunshot wounds.

Police said one of the men was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for his injuries, and the other man died from his injuries sustained in the shooting.

Police say detectives from the Reno Police Department’s Robbery and Homicide Unit took over the investigation and determined the two men were involved in a fight with each other that ultimately led to the shooting.

They say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

The identity of the deceased man will be released by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner once notifications are made.

ORIGINAL STORY – OCTOBER 20:

A section of downtown Reno near 2nd Street is closed tonight as officers continue to investigate a shooting.

Sunday afternoon, reports of shots fired were received in the center of the alley behind El Cortez off West 2nd Street – at the intersection of Roff Way and 2nd Street.

The Reno Police Department confirmed two people were hit, one fatally.

A sergeant from the RUP said that there is no threat to the population, and all persons involved have been accounted for.

An active investigation is underway and police are asking people to avoid the cordoned off area.
