Baton Rouge, La. (WAFB) – One person is still recovering after being hit on Florida Boulevard, mainly a roadway that has no intersections or sidewalks.
If you live in a blush baton, you know how difficult you can travel on Florida Boulevard by car and on foot.
“Pedestrians are hit quite often,” admitted Fred Raoford. “There are no sidewalks that people get out of the traffic itself, at one point you want to reach the other side and you must have those places that are safe.”
Raiford is dissatisfied with the amount of people who hit this main roadway. The most recent happening on Tuesday night, when someone walking on the side of the road was struck by a police officer from Baton Rouge, who is stopping traffic. We are told that one still recovers in hospital.
As director of transport and drainage of the parish, Raiford works so that this does not happen again.
“It is very disappointing to the people who were injured and the mortality that we had on this roadway when they just do their normal thing, everyday life and the next thing you know are no longer here,” Raiford explained. “We are just trying to deal with safety and keep people moving in the right direction.”
He talks about the project to improve the corridor of Movebr Florida Boulevard, which will bring major improvements such as illuminated intersections, sidewalks, improved road signals and drainage from North 22 to the airline’s highway. The elements that Raiford believes are desperately necessary as more businesses and families are included in the area.
“We are trying to improve the community, to provide business opportunities, but also to have the infrastructure to comply with these problems,” Raiford said.
As it is a lane La Dotd, Raiford said it takes some time to approve everything approved and funded at the state and urban-nor-nor level. He hopes all plans will be presented by September and start construction by the beginning of next year.
