Officials deploy new ideas to break up with violent crime in Baton Rouge – WAFB

Baton Rouge, La. (WAFB) – East Baton Rouge employees are trying to deal with violence with new ideas that they announced on Tuesday.

“I said this before and I will say this again, I saw everything that can die … to die, in this community, in my career as a police officer, it is time to stop, time to stop,” said Jeff Ledf, a former boss of Police in Baton Rouge and Assistant Administrative Director of the Mayor Administration.

Today was the first of what he says that the mayor’s cabinet will be many new initiatives to resolve crimes in Baton Rouge.

“There are one million ways to attack this problem with crime, this is just one of them, but we wanted to unleash it today,” said President Mayor Sid Edwards.

The first initiative, announced on Tuesday, was that the criminal stoppers would now offer more money for murder tips in the first 48 hours.

“The first 48 hours of each investigation are the most important, especially in the case of murder. So, we have come up with an initiative and it will be called the First 48 Boost awards, we will double the murder award, “added Johnny Dunham, CEO of the Capital Region Crime Member.

Before that, you could get $ 2500 for murder advice that led to the arrest and charge of the responsible person. Now, if this advice is received within the first 48 hours of the murder, you can get up to $ 5,000.

Previously, you can get up to $ 5,000 for multiple murder tips, now this issue can reach $ 10,000.

“If we manage to generate more public tips within these 48 hours, it increases the chances that the murder will be resolved,” Dunham explained.

According to Batton police chief, Batton Rouge TJ Morse, the police had no workforce to work with these cases, which is why they also unleashed their idea of reinforcing retired police officers.

“We can return them exactly as those senior officers, a type of mentoring, the more junior officers, help fill these gaps in the workforce and revive some of our other cold cases, some investigations we have,” Morse added.

This will allow certain retired police officers to be overwhelmed without stopping their retirement benefits.

“This allows us to redirect, Police from Baton Rouge, without punishment for retirement retirement, they receive this check and can return to work for us. That’s a huge thing, ”Ledf said.

“We can’t fight this battle alone,” he said. “Unified efforts are needed – law enforcement, selected employees and the people of Eastern Baton Rouge – to build a more fascinating future for our families and our neighborhoods.”
