Las Vegas (KVVU/Gray News) – an officer in Las Vegas has died after being shot dead in the execution of the on -call.

According to a police station in North Las Vegas, the employee responded to reports of someone armed with a gun on Tuesday afternoon.

The employee found a suspect and issued commands. Police said the suspect then approached the officer and the shooting was exchanged between the two.

The employee has been shot repeatedly and was taken to hospital, according to employees.

Despite life -saving efforts, the officer died.

“With heavy hearts, we are grieving for the passage of one of the best in North Las Vegas,” said police chief Jacqueline Graviv. “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers come out to the officer’s family, friends and his brotherhood in blue. “

The suspect was also taken to the hospital, where they later died.

The North Las Vegas Police Department also shared a statement about social media.

“With deep sadness, we share the heartbreaking news about the loss of one of ours who were killed in the fulfillment of the obligations today,” the statement said. “We are expanding our deepest condolences to their family, friends and colleagues. This tragic loss is a solemn reminder of the dedication and courage of those who serve and protect our community. The officer’s name has not been released yet.

The North Las Vegas Police Department said it was his first firing related to the 2025 officer.
