New State Senators: Batton Rouge and Lafayette voters have elected new members of the Louisiana Senate Special Elections on Saturday, raising current members of the State House of Representatives at both open places. Reporter Larry Seltras of Baton Rouge won directly in the race to fill the vacancy in the Senate district 14, created when Cleo Fields won the November election for the 6th Congress County. Running: Initial unemployment claims have grown in Washington, Colombia County as President Donald Trump’s administration is moving to shrink the federal government. Unemployment records rose to 1780 for the week ending February 8, an increase of 36% compared to the previous week. Overall, about 4,000 workers in the city have applied for unemployment since Trump took office. Read more from CNBC.

Guest speaker: Mary Stein, assistant director of the parish library in East Baton Rouge, will be a guest speaker at the Batton Rouge Club press on Monday. Stein will discuss how libraries and role they play to improve the quality of life of the parish.
