Obama, Waltz question Trump’s mental competency at Madison rally – WisPolitics.com

Barack Obama and Tim Waltz at a rally in Madison today questioned Donald Trump’s mental competency.

Obama pointed to Trump’s two-hour campaign speeches, saying “you’d be worried if your grandfather behaved like that.”

The former president said Kamala Harris, meanwhile, is “ready to get the job done.”

Waltz said Trump doesn’t have the stamina to be president and that he’s been “bubbling more than normal” lately.

“I don’t care if he’s exhausted,” Waltz said. “He’s not as exhausted as people are by him.”

Waltz dismissed Trump’s recent visit to McDonald’s and said it was “cruel to use people’s livelihoods as political leverage.”

The two spoke at Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Alliant Energy Center on the first day of early voting amid a bipartisan push to get voters to the polls ahead of the Nov. 5 election.

Obama said freedom for Trump meant “letting powerful people do what they want, including union busting.”

In response, the many members of the Workers International Union of North America in attendance — wearing orange shirts emblazoned with the words “Workers Rise with Kamala and Tim” — booed loudly. The union endorsed Harris in late July.

Before the event, state GOP Chairman Brian Schimming said in a statement that Harris and Waltz were reaching out to Obama to “save their failed campaign” while knocking the former president for actions like blocking the Keystone pipeline.

“Is it any wonder voters increasingly distrust the Democratic Party to cut spending and keep them safe?” Schimming said.

Obama and Waltz were joined at today’s rally by Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wickler, Dane County Interim Executive Jamie Kuhn, Gov. Tony Evers, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, actor Bradley Whitford, U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, a Madison College freshman and the mayor of Madison Satya Rhodes-Conway.

Walz criticized Trump rival JD Vance for comments he made Monday that Trump was “speaking from the heart” when he described his political rivals as the “enemy within.”

“A cold, loud, three sizes too small heart,” Waltz said.

Walz named Elon Musk, who campaigned with Trump and offered $1 million a day to target voters in states that signed a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments, as Trump’s running mate instead of Vance. He said Musk was “on that stage jumping around, jumping around like a fool.”

It was Waltz’s sixth visit to the state since becoming Harris’ running mate in August. It was Obama’s first visit to Wisconsin since Harris’ nomination and seventh since 2007. Waltz will visit Racine later tonight.
