Nov. 5 election: Voters to elect new East Baton Rouge council members, city police – Yahoo! Voices

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — On Election Day in East Baton Rouge Parish, voters will elect a new Baton Rouge city police officer and council members for Wards 1, 2, 5, 7, 10 and 11.

Two Democrats remain in the Baton Rouge city police race: C. Denise Marcel and Terika Williams. Philip Payne Jr., a Democrat, was disqualified from the race, and Vernon R. Scott, also a Democrat, withdrew.

Three people are running for the EBR Metro Council District 1 race: incumbent Brandon Noel, Republican; Gary Price, Republican; and Eric Smith Sr., Democrat.

Chauna Banks currently holds the seat in District 2. Four Democrats are running for the seat, including Eugene Collins, Deanna Johnson, Anthony Kenney and Tia Mills.

The District 5 election drew three Democrats: incumbent Daryl Hurst, Redel Norman and Marcus Randall.

Two Democrats remain in the race for District 7, including Alfred Bell and Tuanha P. Harris. LaMont Cole has stepped down after being named the new superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

Incumbent Carolyn Coleman and Jasmine Davis Spencer are the two Democrats running for District 10.

In the District 11 race, incumbent Laura White “Lori” Adams, R, faces Penny Mae Landry, No Party.

Several EBR metro council races were decided before the primary.

Four races were set when only the incumbent qualified to run:

  • District 3: Rowdy Gaudet, Republican.

  • District 4: Aaron Moak, Republican.

  • District 8: Denise Amoroso, Republican.

  • District 9: Dwight Hudson, Republican.

Incumbent Cleve Dunn Jr., a Democrat, won the EBR Metro District 6 councilman race after his only opponent, Corey Smith, a Democrat, was disqualified.

Jennifer “Jen” Racca, a Republican, won the District 12 race unopposed. Her only opponent, Joseph “Liberty Jesus” Clement, a libertarian, was disqualified.

Voters will elect a new Baton Rouge City Court judge

Voters will determine the Division C seat on the Baton Rouge Municipal Court bench. Democrats Niles Hamer and Brittany Bryant Jordan are running to serve on the bench.

Four starters kept their spots on the court when they were the only ones to qualify:

  • ES 1B: Kelly Terrell Temple, Democrat.

  • ES 1D: Yvette Alexander, Democrat.

  • ES 2A: Carson Marcantel, Republican.

  • ES 2E: Judy Moore Vendetto, Republican.

What you need to know about Election Day

On Tuesday, November 5th, polls will be open from 6am to 8pm in Louisiana.

Voters across the country will determine the next president of the United States. Voters statewide will decide on a proposed constitutional amendment and representation in the US Congress.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office, 22 parishes have local races and proposals; 22 have native races but no suggestions; 15 have only state and presidential elections; and five have native offerings but no native races.

Every second round of elections will be held on Saturday, December 7. Early voting for this election will be from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm on November 22-30, excluding Sunday, November 24, Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.

Residents who want to vote early can use the GeauxVote mobile app to find their early voting locations, view their sample ballot and view the voting site on Election Day.
