Northern Irshir Group hosts a celebration of Chinese New Year – Irvine Times

The Ayrshire Lok Oi Association, created in the summer 2024 in volunteer rooms in Irvine, combines the efforts of two previous groups: Lok Fu Chinese Group for Elderly and the OI KWAN Chinese Women’s Group.

This was made possible with the support of the Council Communities Service.

On Monday, February 3, the group will host a celebration of Chinese New Year from 13:00 to 18:00.

This will include food, traditional red costumes, decorations and lion dance.

Joe Chan, the chairman of the group, said: “The purpose of the organization is to help promote the health and well-being of members of the Canton community-and all ethnic minority groups in Irshir.

“We are here to support everyone, in particular, British Hong Kong citizens abroad, to organize activities, to help people socialize and host events.”

Most of the members of the committee and their families lived in Irshir for a bigger part of their lives.

This year, the Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, fell on January 29 and celebrates the year of the snake.

Advisor Alan Hill, a member of the Cabinet for Communities and Islands, said: “It is great to see that with the support of our employees of related communities, this group is thriving and is able to organize colorful events such as the Chinese New Year holiday.”

Guests and the public are invited to join the celebration at 15:30 to meet the organizers and learn more about the association.
