North Las Vegas shoots the life of an officer and the 25-year-old suspect, Alexander Matis-Nevada Globe

A police officer in North Las Vegas and 25-year-old Alexander Andre Matis were killed in a shootout on Tuesday afternoon after a tense confrontation near Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road. The incident unfolded around 2:13:13 pm when the officers responded to messages about Matisse, which is said to have pointed a gun to another person.

After arriving, the officers tried to engage in Matisse, who ignored commands and fled. When an officer deployed it shortly after, Matisse was armed and continued to ignore the repeated commandments to show his hands. The situation escalates quickly, leading to an exchange of firing.

The officer was hit repeatedly, but managed to return the fire by hitting Matisse. Colleagues led immediate medical attention until the fire office staff in North Las Vegas arrived. Despite the efforts to save him, the officer succumbed to his injuries to the UMC traumatic center. Matisse was also transported to the hospital where he was declared dead.

“With heavy hearts, we are grieving for the passage of one of the best in North Las Vegas,” said police chief Jacqueline Gravt. “Police officers choose this line of work because they want to protect and serve the community, knowing the risks and challenges that come with the badge. Our thoughts and prayers come out to the family, the officer’s friends and his brotherhood in blue. “

This incident marks the first firing related to the North Las Vegas Police Office in 2025.
