LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Fatal crashes in North Las Vegas are down from the same period last year, but the number of pedestrians struck remains high.
The North Las Vegas Police Department has reported 26 people killed on roadways in their jurisdiction so far in 2024. The latest occurred on Oct. 22 in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 7 p.m.
Police said a silver Lexus sedan struck a pedestrian crossing the road, not in a crosswalk.
Officers did not suspect driver impairment as a factor.
NLVPD reported 11 pedestrians, 6 motorcyclists and 1 bicyclist killed in 2024.
The total number of crashes is down from last year in North Las Vegas, with 4,053 in 2023 compared to 3,181 as of Oct. 23.
The total number of fatal drug use cases increased by 8 compared to 5 in 2023.
Hit-and-run deaths remain even at 5 in 2023 and 5 in 2024.
