North Las Vegas police provide details of the shooting that left officer dead – Las Vegas Review -Journal

The North Las Vegas Police Department on Wednesday launched more details about a shootout last week, which left officer Jason Roskov dead.

Roskov, a 46-year-old father of two young boys, whose career with the department covered 17 years, died at the University Medical Center after being shot dead by 25-year-old Alexander Matisse, police said.

During a press conference on Wednesday morning, police played frames from a bodily camera from Roskov and another officer who responded to the scene. Matis fired five rounds of Makarov pistol, according to the assistant chief Adam Hyde.

Although he has suffered several firearms, Roskov managed to shoot 16 rounds, hitting Matisse, who died from a firearm in his head, according to police and Corron’s office of Clark Corrona.

Another officer who was identified as Luis Machias-Venegas, at 36, shot one circle, Hyde said. The police did not say where this circle was.

The shots showed Matisse to stand above Roskov during the shooting, only moments after the officer ordered Matis, who was dressed in all blacks, to show his hands while on 1300 block on the Misty View court in North Las Vegas.

“Hands up, show me your hands … .. Then the sound of the shots that fire after Matis appeared behind a jeep parked on the street.

In Macias-Venegas body camera footage, the officer is shown to move to the scene of the shooting and say on his radio “This will be a fog vessel, I’m here.”

Seconds later, shooting sounds can be heard.

Police refused to take questions from reporters during a briefing on Wednesday.

In the early afternoon on February 4, police received at least two messages about a man with a gun who was throwing rocks at vehicles, including one of a woman who said her car’s window had been broken.

It is reported that the man, later identified as Matisse, walks along the Camino Al Norte, near where he intersects with the mountain road of the western lonely. The penalty website was less than a mile than this place.

Police said Matisse had “approached” to Roskov after the employee was hidden from a parked vehicle in the Misty View court.

Roskov, who has been working in the traffic department for several years, returned to Patrol last February.

“He will really light a room,” said officer Philip Caras, President of the Association of Police officers in North Las Vegas, the Union representing North Las Vegas officials. “He was a very funny individual, always uplifting those around him. It’s a shame for the people who just come, and the people we hire afterwards will never get to know him or learn from his experience. “

When they were reached by phone on Tuesday, Jason Roskov’s father, Illinois resident Erwin Roskov, said he did not want to talk about her son’s death, except to say the days after his passing were “the most difficult days of our lives”.

A Memorial for Roskov will be held on Thursday at 10 am in the central church in Henderson.

A funeral liturgy is planned for Roskov, which will be held on Monday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, with a funeral that will follow.

Roskov’s fundraising took place on Monday in Las Vegas.
