BATON ROUGE, La. (BPRORUD) — A North Baton Rouge family is still recovering after their home was destroyed by trees during Hurricane Francine.
The home of Rochelle Chester and her family was the one in her neighborhood that sustained the most damage after a large tree crashed through the roof. Since then, their only request is to help them get back on their feet.
“They will help with a little help. And the START program, I gave them some information, but it’s a process where they’re trying to get us housing,” Chester said.
Chester says it’s still a scary memory to think about. Since East Baton Rouge Parish is not included in the areas that provide FEMA disaster assistance, several organizations such as the Red Cross have reached out to provide assistance.

She says her work has worked to help, along with her children’s schools. Charissa Jones, a family friend, says she’s doing what she can to help lift the load.
“As much relief as I can give her, I would give her more relief, so she can have a lot of help,” Jones said.
The family’s home is considered a total loss with the tree still standing on its roof. Chester says it’s something that can be replaced, but not many valuable items that they value and need.
“We need all the help we can get because we’ve lost almost everything. I think the only thing I saved was this. These are my children’s birth certificates and social security cards. “Well, that bag means a lot to me, my son goes through, the clothes he went through, and it was in that room that collapsed. My daughter went into the backyard and crawled up all those trees and brought the sack back to me,” Chester said.

Although it’s a difficult process to start from scratch, the family says they’re grateful for any help given to pick up the pieces.
“Anyone who wants to make any donations of money, clothes, food, gas, anything will help us. We really appreciate it,” Chester said.
The family says you can send any donations to their $RochelleChester money app.
