The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is seeking nominations for the 28th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards. The deadline for applications in all categories is December 15.
The awards recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are talented in visual art, dance, music, theater and film and emerging media arts (which includes film, 3D models, interactive art, sound design and video games). These students are an example of the pinnacle of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.
For the fields of music, dance, theater and film, and emerging media arts, students must submit an online application that includes uploading a sample of their work and a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Full instructions are available at
Visual arts students must submit an online application and include a photo of their work for evaluation. The works of the winning students will be exhibited in the MEDICI Gallery of the School of Art, Art History and Design. For details visit
All winning students will be invited to a special recognition day on April 2. Honored students and their parents will tour the arts facilities, attend classes, meet faculty and students, have lunch and participate in the awards ceremony.
Students selected to participate in the Nebraska Young Artist Awards will also be asked to nominate the teacher who provided them with the most mentorship and support in developing their special talents.
