It took FSU less than two minutes to gain the advantage as Marianyela Jiménez scored the first goal of the postseason and set the tone with a well-placed shot into the left side of the net. As the final seconds of the first half ticked down, Notre Dame took a shot that was seconds away from the tying goal.
As both sides began to enter the game, Addie Todd showed his skills in the air, making several crucial saves that prevented several chances for Notre Dame. She made a great save to deny a goal in the top right corner before making a finger save to keep the Seminoles ahead.
FSU was able to double the lead with a skillfully executed combination that allowed Sophia Nguyen to unleash a stunning goal into the bottom left corner. Nguyen scored his first goal of the season and his first goal since September 2022.
Notre Dame was able to pull one back with less than 10 minutes left, but FSU’s defense held steady and blocked the last-minute attempts. Florida State effectively controlled the tempo in the final few minutes and maintained possession to shut down Notre Dame’s offense to secure the victory.
Florida State will travel to Cary, North Carolina to meet No. 3 Wake Forest in the ACC semifinals on Thursday night. The game will be available to watch on the ACC Network.
