Several users of EBT cards are expanding missing funds from their accounts.

Lakewood’s relationship first announced that police were “flooded” with EBT missing calls, which are part of the well -being program, sometimes called food marks. In some cases, fraudulent purchases were made online using the stolen information, readers told SCOOP.

The retailers are urging customers to change their PIN in order to protect themselves from future theft.

Liakwood police captain Greg Staffordsmith told New Jersey 101.5 that law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions were notified of possible thefts.

The spokesman for the State Department of Human Services Tom Hester said there was a “bigger problem” in the game, but would not reveal the details. He referred to the FBI website page of skimming devices that illegally steal data from cards at retail cash boxes.

There is still bad news for anyone who loses their funds, according to the Agency’s website.

“All benefits stolen on or after December 21, 2024 are not eligible for replacement as a result of a change in the federal budget,” the site said.

The budget approved by Congress and signed by then -President Joe Biden to preserve the federal government without interruption does not include the replacement provision.

As of April 2024, 829 381 people in New Jersey have received SNAP benefits that are distributed using EBT cards.

The benefits can be stolen electronically in the following ways, according to the agency.

• Skimming means illegally attaching a device to a sales machine to steal information about EBT card or PIN.
• Cloning means copying information about the stolen EBT card to a new card.
• Scaming means convincing someone to disclose information about their EBT cards, often through a fraudulent phone call or a text message that pretends to be from an official government agency (usually known as phishing.)
