Nick Harbor will not participate in the ongoing indoor track season and may miss the outdoor track season this spring so he can focus solely on spring football at South Carolina.
Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer discussed Harbor’s situation with reporters on Saturday.
“Right now, he wants to focus on spring training and football and developing there. We’re kind of where we are right now,” Beamer said.
Beamer also said Saturday that Harbor’s play this past season contributed to his decision to focus on football.
“Obviously, he played really well and made some big plays and got better as the year went on,” Beamer told The Herald. “I think he realizes he has a big step up, a big future in football if he can keep progressing.
“But he also understands that there’s a small window of time before your college career is over, and he wants to take advantage of that.”
South Carolina spring football starts on March 19, while the outdoor track season starts 2 days later, so there’s a direct conflict there for Harbor to think about. Harbor qualified for the Olympic trials in the 200 meters last June, but did not compete.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound sophomore had 26 catches for 376 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2024. for the Gamecocks, helping South Carolina to 9-4.
