The NFL fined Saints defensive end Nathan Shepard for his play on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. That will cost him $11,817. Here’s what happened midway through the second quarter.
Both Shepard and Chargers offensive lineman Bradley Bozeman received flags on the play. There was no stoppage as a result of the play, and Saints head coach Dennis Allen offered his opinion on whether there was intent to injure Herbert.
“I don’t think it’s accurate,” Allen said. “Here’s a guy trying to wrap the quarterback. He’s on the ground, no idea if the quarterback has the ball or not. He’s just trying to get the quarterback to the ground. There was nothing malicious about this play.. This is a guy trying to make the play. I went back and watched this play again after seeing the comments and I don’t agree with it.
