The Dallas Cowboys made an interesting announcement hours before their matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. The 3-3 Cowboys were scheduled to play on the road at Levi’s Stadium against the 3-4 49ers on Sunday night.
Earlier in the week, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones hinted that four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook would make his debut for Dallas on Sunday night. Head coach Mike McCarthy backed up the statement, saying the veteran tight end is ready to face the 49ers.
Dalvin Cook was elevated this weekend
The Cowboys promoted Cook from the practice squad to the active roster for the contest. Nothing, as the former second-round pick was expected to play at some point this season.
However, the timing of Cook’s elevation will be scrutinized next week after the Cowboys announced Sunday afternoon that starting running back Rico Dowdle is questionable for the 49ers game due to an illness:
“Upon arrival at the RB stadium, Rico Dowdle fell ill. He is being evaluated by the team’s medical staff and his playing status is now in question.

It’s very possible Dowdle didn’t have any symptoms until he arrived at Levi’s Stadium, but if the Cowboys knew he was sick earlier in the weekend or week, they should have added him to the injury report, according to league rules.
NFL fans are questioning whether the Dallas Cowboys cheated
Some NFL fans on social media thought the Cowboys may have tried to fudge the injury report for Sunday’s game by waiting to release news about Dowdle’s illness.
“Totally unrelated that Cook was activated,” wrote one fan. “I arrived at the stadium and suddenly felt sick.”
“So that’s how you made room for Dalvin Cook,” asked another.
“Yeah, that sounds too convenient lol,” one person commented.
“Bs…probably sick since yesterday hence Cook activated,” posted another.
