Virginia Beach, VA.

The CSFWL Chief of the Year Award is awarded to a person who has demonstrated exclusively leadership. Chandler was nominated as the Chief of the Year of the VFA-106 and had to compete at the CSFWL level against other VFA nominees to win.

She was in tears of joy after hearing the announcement of her election of the Chief of the Year. Chandler was particularly grateful for the recognition after it was a difficult year to lose his mother and godfather.

“I’m still awe, I felt like I had flaws between an attempt to care for my mother and I still do my job, my command really supported me,” Chandler said. “They admitted that I was still trying to be strict in the game.”

Chandler, a native of Andrews, South Carolina, has served 23 years in the Navy and plans to finish her 30 years for retirement.

“When they say you are ready to retire, you are ready and I am not yet ready when all the new sailors come in, I still have more to give and I want to direct them to the future,” Chandler said. “My daughter is 17 and wants to join the Navy and I want to be there for her while she goes into the military.”

Chandler came from a small town and wanted to join to see the world. Her aunt was a nurse in Manhattan, New York, in September 11 and used to tell her stories. Chandler knew he wanted to make a change.

“I want to be here to help when the nation called,” Chandler said.

The Mission of CSFWL is to Man, Train, and Equip Strike Fighter Squadrons in Order to Conduct Carrier-Based Combat and Support Missions Tenance Center for Excellence, and Administrative Control of 14 operating VFA squadrils.
