A train operator is dead and 23 were injured after a train in New Jersey Transit hit a tree early in Monday, employees say.
The river line was traveling south of Trenton when it hit a tree north of the Rowling station at 6:04, NJ Transit reports.
There were a total of 42 clients on board and 23 received mostly mild, not life -threatening injuries, authorities said. The other 19 passengers were accommodated by bus.
NBC New York Chapter Shopers show a large part of the track on the track, and the front of the train is completely broken.
Police in New Jersey Transit is at the scene and is investigating.
River line service is suspended both in the directions between Florence and Trenton and in the replacement bus service is provided.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote to X that he was informed of the accident “in which a light rail hits a tree on the tracks, leading to the death of the train operator and the wounding of passengers … Our prayers are affected by this tragic incident. “
Norris Young, a passenger on the train, told NBC Philadelphia that the train had hit a “giant tree”.
“There was a tree on the track, I don’t know if it fell on the track or just lay on the track,” Young said.
He said he witnessed passengers wounded by the accident and saw at least one person taken to a stretcher.
