The Council has accepted the letter to the State Prosecutor’s Office to investigate and eventually take court action against Powerschool, saying that “legal actions may be the only means of arranging Powerschool responsibly for their negligence and providing appropriate funds for hundreds of thousands of affected persons. “

As part of the letter, the board members demanded “complete protection of identity and monitoring of loans” by Powershool for all those affected for the next four years.

The Council also asked the Prosecutor General to have more stringent requirements for a supplier, mandate improved security measures and guarantee Powerschool in accordance with Ferpa and other applicable data privacy laws.

Last month, data from the State Information System for Students and Teachers were compromised on cybersecurity expiration, including names, addresses, social security numbers and other sensitive information. Officials have announced to news publications that the compromised data have been destroyed.
