New affordable housing development near Amazon facility – WBRZ officially opened

BATON ROUGE — As more employees of Amazon’s Cortana facility move closer to work, they now have a new, more affordable option.

The Preserve at Joor Place officially opened its doors to the public Monday in hopes of providing a safe and comfortable environment for lower-income families in North Baton Rouge.

According to CST Multifamily Real Estate President Tom Delahaye, the majority of the apartments have already been leased.

He hopes the few remaining will go to hard-working tenants employed at Amazon’s fulfillment center or nearby businesses.

“Oftentimes, people who are making these wages are living month to month, and we’re fortunate to be able to provide them with housing they can afford,” Delahaye said.

Delahaye has donated a 14-acre plot off Joor Road, which it hopes will be converted into a grocery store and shopping mall. He also plans to build an apartment building for seniors at the front of the apartment complex.
