Nevada Republicans lead by 50,000 ballots over Democrats after early voting ends – Reno Gazette Journal

About half a million more ballots can be expected to be cast in Nevada based on voter turnout from the 2020 election.

Nevada Democrats have no work to do between Election Day on Tuesday, if early voting activity is any indication.

After the final day of early voting, registered Republicans cast nearly 50,000 more votes than Democrats statewide, according to Secretary of State figures released at 9 p.m. Friday.

Just over 50% of registered eligible voters have already cast their ballots. In the 2020 general election, 77% voted. If that trend continues this year, about half a million more votes will be cast from mail-in ballots that have not yet been recorded and people voting on Election Day.

In 2020, Joe Biden won Nevada over Donald Trump by less than 34,000 votes. The state has not given its electoral votes to a Republican candidate since George W. Bush in 2004.

Independents and members of other parties will also influence the final results. Nearly 290,000 people have voted so far.

In Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, Democratic voters cast 12,000 more votes than Republicans.

But in Washoe County — home to Reno and considered the state’s most swing county — Republicans lead Democrats by about 9,000 votes. A Republican presidential candidate also hasn’t won Washoe since 2004.
