RENO, Nev. (COLO) – The community is invited to join Nevada Humanities this weekend for an evening of poetry and conversation as we honor and celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Several guests stopped by Morning Break to talk about this event, including: George Tsz-Kwan Lam, associate director at Nevada Humanities; Dr. Daniel Enrique Perez, one of the Humanities Advisors for the Latin American Poetry Initiative and Anthology and Associate Professor of Chicano and Latino Literature at the University of Nevada, Reno; and Jesse James Ziegler, 2024-2025 City of Reno Poet Laureate.
The Day of the Dead celebration and conversation takes place on Saturday, November 2nd from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Sierra Foundation for the Arts in Reno. Ziegler will moderate the program; Perez will present the opening remarks; and then several local poets will share original poems and readings from the anthology in English, Spanish and Spanish. It aims to explore themes of origin and identity, heritage, language and family and community. A Q&A and conversation will follow.
