£10m is being made available by the Scottish Government through the Road Safety Improvement Fund to support critical safety schemes focused on reducing risks and reducing casualties on local roads.

East Ayrshire receives £248,253.11, North Ayrshire will receive £224,825.80 and South Ayrshire will benefit from £218,643.42 of funding.

An additional £4m will fund targeted initiatives specifically designed to protect pedestrians and cyclists at key locations in Scotland through the introduction of 20mph speed limits.

Comprehensive assessments of all schemes will be carried out to measure their impact on road safety.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “Road safety is a top priority for the Scottish Government, which is why we are making a record investment of £36 million this financial year into initiatives that reduce road casualties.

“This £14 million investment underlines our commitment to supporting our road safety partners to implement schemes that protect the public.

“I am delighted to see all 32 local authorities in Scotland receiving this support as we work towards our ambitious safety targets.

“Our aim to make Scotland’s roads the safest in the world by 2030 is unwavering. I am resolute in my determination to save lives and ensure a safer Scotland for all.
