NASCAR fans will descend to Winston-Salem this weekend for a clash race held at the Bowman Gray Stadium-the first time of 1971-and a new event center will be ready and waiting for them.
NASH, located on 840 N. Liberty St. In the center of Winston-Salem, it will be temporarily opened this weekend to honor the history of cars in the city and the rapidly developing future in the NASCAR arena.
Christie Cox Spencer said she was excited to call her NASCAR at this event.
“Our main business, JKS, has been doing a NASCAR business for 40 years. This is a partnership we enjoyed, so when we found that they would return this competition to Bowman Gray Stadium, we decided that there should be something related to Winston-Salem racing. “
Spencer has noticed a lack of private spaces for higher capacity private events after trying to meet more than 250 people in Robert Hall, another place, owned and restored by Spencers. She calls her and her husband Will, serial entrepreneurs of the historical variety. For years, the duo has been a long -time business owners in the city center with their main business, JKS Incorporated. Radar cooking will begin in 2018.
“We talked about it and it just developed from it,” Spencer said. “More thought and more resources are needed to repeat an old building than to build a brand new building, but that’s what makes the city unique. The character of the city is the buildings and its history. When you go through a city that just has new brand buildings, you don’t learn anything about the city. People want to work to restore an old building and find a way to give it a new life. ”
Extension of Robert Hall, ours was previously the building of the Old Win Cup Museum. This museum took place from May 2005 to December 2023, when it was forced to close due to a violation case brought by the ITG brands. The trial and closure have provoked outrage from fans and professionals in the industry.
“It was really difficult for my husband. I want to say that it was his passion and he is a collector of all the things that compete. I think it just took him a little to unleash his mind and hands around the loss of it. He was devastated to close the museum, “she said. “I wanted to do something that would make him happy and help us by providing an additional offer to the people who contact us in Robert Hall. I feel like I am able to give this building a new life and the history of honors is wonderful. ”
Initially, the building was a Nash Motors car dealership before returning to Bob Neil Pontiac, and most recently the Cup Cup Museum. The building permit is indicated at the Brown Coltrane Nash Motor Company. Former General Motors President Charles W. Nash Founded Nash Motors in 1916. The Line Made ITS Mark with Vehicles That Shaped Industrial Industries and Were Wired During World Ts Jeffry Quad Truck, Just Let’s name a few. It was also known for specific characteristics, such as the motors of the aboveground valves, the testing of the wind tunnel and the meteorological eyes ventilation system.
Spencer said she was inspired by the Cadillac Service garage in Greensboro.
“I was not there, but I saw their photos and I thought that” wouldn’t it be cool to have a car theme, “she said of the concept. “It makes my husband happy and gives me extra space. That’s how it appeared. “
The event center will be open to separate laps from 10:00 to 5:00 pm from Thursday, January 30th to Saturday, February 1st. Tickets are $ 10 for adults and children on six and free are free. Military veterans with valid identification can also enter without cost.
There will be several generations of NASCAR race cars, vintage vehicles from the 40th and 1950s and NASCAR memorials. On Friday, January 31, 1pm to 4pm, Jeff Hammond and Will Kronkrit will be on hand to sign autographs.
NASH will host the NASCAR CLASH CLASHIFING SAFE on Saturday, February 1st from 6pm to 10pm with food and drinks from Foothill’s Brewing. They will also host a sold -out clock party on Sunday, February 2.
However, they still have room for many viewers at their NASCAR Car and Coffee Event on Sunday, February 2, 10:00 to 13:00, this free event will include vintage cars, euro cars, muscle cars and hot rods, Along with food trucks, games and music from DJ live.
“If you just want to be a viewer and like cars, go out. It will definitely be a party, “she said.
Spencer hopes to become a beacons for the community, host family events and more.
“We like to do car exhibitions and I think we will be able to do more than those who move forward,” she said. “I hope we can make events in the community and others.”
She said they had received positive reviews as they worked in the building.
“We work and have had many people who look through the windows and ask what we did,” Spencer said. “I think it certainly caught the attention of people and they are curious.”
Only one of the thousands, Spencer is glad to see Nascar to return to Winston-Salem. She hopes she will have more partnerships with NASCAR and is excited to see the result of current partnerships with Winston-Salem State University.
“The Bowman Gray Stadium is a Winston-Salem State. Half a year is a race track and half a year is a football field. People do not realize what the North Carolina motor sports industry is. It’s an industry of $ five billion and an investment that is complicated, “she said. “This is a revenue generator for the city, hotels, bars and restaurants. The national exposition is large. It’s so big. “
The NASCAR Campus Lab cohort of the State University of Winston-Salem will also voluntarily participate in the clash for some practical experience. NASCAR announced its expansion of its Campus laboratory program last fall at WSSU, which made it the first university in North Carolina to offer the program. Students admitted to the NASCAR Campus laboratory program will receive an attempt in the real world to develop a marketing activation while managing a given budget provided by NASCAR to compete in a Casus Competition, to get a backstage look at the whole industry to be Pailed with a mentor from the NASCAR black resources group and receives advice on the resumption and interview of human resources specialists.
WSSU students selected for the introductory cohort are: Nile Taxon; Bryson Banks; Deandre Mays; Zoria Henderson; Juana Ramirez Manriquez; Julian Murray; Amarion Willis; Lawrence Kurtonia; Keren Casago; Ciel Miller; Angelo Langord; Aaron Hokut; Taylor Williams; and Trinity Pratt.
“NASCAR puts its roots in Winston-Salem with this initiative,” Spencer said.
While Triad residents and fans get a sneaky look this weekend, NASH will not officially open until winter 2025.
“We have been in a hurry to do this so that we can be part of this weekend and we are so excited,” Spencer said. “But then there are basic things I want to do from the back, such as adding extra bathrooms and a catering kitchen. So there is a big deal that needs to happen. But my goal is to be able to start booking events for the winter 2025. ”
