Laura Govan Aliya Arenas’s son is committed to playing for USC

Soon Laura Govan will cheer about two of her children who play on a collegial level. Her son Aliya Arenas, a five-star rookie and widely considered one of the best high school yards, decided where basketball will play in college.

He chose from a list of exclusive Division I programs, including Arizona, where his father played before he came to the NBA. He also received offers from Alabama and California. After turning him over, he decided to engage with the USC and would play his freshman there during the 2025-26 campaign.

Alijah Arenas’s decision was announced in his father’s podcast, Gil’s Arena. Josia Johnson, hosting the show, told Laura Govan and Gilbert Arenas to call the coach at any school he chose while the podding was filmed to tell him his decision. This prompted him to call the USC coach, Eric Musselman.

“Hey coach,” Aliya said when Musselman lifted. “So I’m in a podcast right now and it’s kind of like a big day for me. I wanted to let everyone know I want to get into USC.” (2: 47-3: 03)

After his announcement, former NBA striker Nick Young threw him. Other former NBA players, Rashad McCans and Brandon Jennings, also attended, as well as his father Gilbert Arenas.
