The 14-year-old was a seventh-grader at Indian River’s Secondary School, and 5-year-old twins were kindergarten students at Thurgood Marshall Elementary, according to reports from schools. Both high school and elementary school have grief advisers and encourage families to contact if their child needs additional support.

The tragic incident happened in the Welcome Road 3000 block at the Aparments Apartments Meiful Village.

Police claim that shortly before 7am, they sent employees to a home after receiving a call to check the welfare. Employees contacted an armed person at the home, and the incident quickly became a barricade situation, police say. A SWAT team and a hostage negotiation team were then sent to the home.

A few minutes later, police claim that there was information that there may be dead people inside the home. Then the police immediately entered the home, where three dead children were found. They also found a King-Roberson Mead from an apparent self-inflicted fire wound.

Those who knew her said that King-Roberson had dealt with the fight for mental health.

“This is what you go through sometimes when you have depression and no one to help you. You feel you can’t go to anyone to help them but all you had to do was call me” said Remy Simmons, friend and neighbor.

The family members came, following the incident, waiting for more answers.

“The oldest was a real quiet … And then the twins were just cheerful and happy because they were younger,” says Holly Ingram, the great aunt of King-Roberson. “It was not easy.”
