St. Paul, Minnesota – A rare winter warming is expected to lead to overweight temperatures in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin this week, with daily peaks climbing up to 40 degrees.
According to the National Meteorological Service, the Twin Cities are expected to reach 35 to 45 degrees on Monday, with similar temperatures last until Thursday. These conditions are significantly warmer than the typical peaks in the low to the mid-20 degrees in late January.
While much of Minnesota will remain dry, there is a chance of light snow in Eastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin, especially on Monday late morning until afternoon. Additional snowfall is possible on Tuesday in Western Wisconsin, with the likelihood of snowfall ranging from 10-25%.
Minimum temperatures at night will remain moderate during this time of year, remaining between 15-30 degrees throughout the week. NWS noted the potential for temperatures to reach a peak near 50 degrees in some areas on Tuesday and Thursday.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of warmer weather, while remaining alert for possible slippery conditions in the snow-affected areas.
