Minister McIntyre hosts Chilean ambassador, discusses potential collaborations – WriteUps24

The Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security, Dr. Irving McIntyre extended a warm welcome to the Chilean ambassador, Jose Antonio Espinoza in Dominica on Wednesday. The delegates exchanged significant dialogues on potential collaborations and initiatives, seeking to strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

Sharing highlights of their meeting on his official Facebook account, the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerritt extended gratitude to the Chilean Ambassador for their immense and valuable support to the island nation during their challenging times.

Prime Minister Skerrit highlighted the discussions held between the delegates and added that their dialogues were exchanged on several issues related to disaster management, climate resilience and agriculture. He added that they look forward to strengthening their cooperation with Chile, seeking to enhance the overall growth and development of both countries.

Treasury Secretary Irving McIntee also expressed gratitude to the Chilean ambassador for their solidarity and contribution to Dominica’s recovery efforts following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria. He added that their support during challenging times is indeed part of their wider humanitarian efforts, underlining their dedication and commitment to strengthening their ties.

The Chilean ambassador also presented his credentials to the President of Dominica, Slivani Burton, and reflected on the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries. Highlighting his visit to Dominica, Ambassador Cabedo mentioned the cooperation between Chile and Dominica and added that they have made significant strides since the formalization of diplomatic relations.

He further highlighted the strong cooperation between the two nations, outlining their shared commitment to common principles in foreign policy, diplomacy, respect for international law and multilateralism, promotion of democracy and human rights, environmental protection and many others.

“Chileans and Dominicans also face, once again, common challenges in a complex time, in particular in climate change, the impact of food and energy, which urgently calls for bilateral and multilateral dialogue and bold collective action,” said Ambassador José Antonio Espinosa.

President Silvani Burton also mentioned the relationship between Dominica and Chile and added that it is characterized by cordiality with an emphasis on cooperation in the sectors of education, fisheries and agriculture. Therefore, it aimed at expanding cooperation in the fields of agriculture and food security, environmental protection, natural resources and renewable energy, territorial and local development and disaster prevention.

“I am pleased to recognize the importance Chile places on CARICOM within its foreign policy, as well as its commitment to promoting and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation,” noted President Silvani Burton.
