It’s almost a month since Michaela Foster signed with Durham Women.
And having already racked up a number of appearances since arriving from New Zealand, Laura Smith caught up with the defender to find out how she is acclimatising to life in the North East and the Barclays Women’s Championship.
Foster in her first month…
“It’s been an amazing month and it’s gone pretty fast.
“It was great to be out on the field with the girls in training, but to get more and more minutes in the games is great.
“I feel really welcome.”
Foster for the Barclays Women’s Championship…
“It’s a different type of football and the quality of the players is really good.
“Even in our team in Durham, in training we always push each other and that’s what I wanted – I want to be pushed.
“As a player you have to be in that environment and play against teams where you never know what can happen on the day, it’s a great championship to be in.”
Foster on his first experience in the North East derbies…
“The derbies were great.
“Obviously we would have liked to have made it two from two, but to feel the support of the fans behind us – especially in these games, but in all games – was amazing.
“It was great to make my home debut as well and the derbies were an amazing opportunity to immerse myself in.”
Foster on Sunday’s trip to Blackburn Rovers…
“We have a bit of knowledge of Blackburn this season having already played them in the cup.
“You can take some confidence from this game to go down and come back and win.
“We’ve grown in the few weeks since we’ve played them, so we’ll go in with confidence but also with respect for them as a team and what they can do.”
Foster for Durham fans…
“They were huge.
“You hear them on trips home and away and we do that for them and ourselves and our teammates.
“This club is about a family atmosphere and that includes the fans.”
Foster’s message to the Blue Army…
“Be loud and keep doing what you’re doing.
“We’re going to come out and keep trying to do better and bounce back from our last result – so keep doing what you’re doing.|
